Large sum compensated to turtle owner: Fatal incident involving child in China results in massive payment

A tragic incident unfolded in the bustling city of Shaoguan, Guangdong province, China, where a young life was abruptly ended. The unfortunate event transpired in the courtyard of a residential complex as the Zhao family was out for a walk with their son. Out of the blue, a pet turtle plummeted from above, landing directly on the boy's head. Despite the best efforts of the medical professionals, the child could not be saved.

The investigations that followed revealed a grim truth—the turtle belonged to a resident of the building. As a consequence of the accident, the deceased's distraught parents took legal action, filing a lawsuit against not only the animal's owner but also the property management company and the insurance organization. However, the court's decision was stark—the pet owner, identified as Zhang, was the sole party to be held accountable.

The court's ruling required Zhang to compensate the family of the victim with a hefty sum of 1.28 million yuan, equivalent to around 180,000 dollars. Initially, Zhang attempted to appeal the decision, but the court only granted him a 30-day extension to fulfill his obligations.

Interestingly, a similar incident occurred in India involving a tiger. The big cat snatched a woman by the neck and dragged her into a nearby field.
