Peterborough United's Stadium to Host New Employment Hub

The Weston Homes Stadium, home to EFL club Peterborough United, is set to become the new home of an employment centre. This centre, part of the Youth Guarantee Trailblazer initiative, is due to open later this year and aims to provide a one-stop shop for support in moving into work, training, or further study.

The employment hub is a collaborative effort, run in partnership with the Peterborough United Foundation, EFL in the Community, Jobcentre Plus, and the wider community. The Peterborough United Foundation, in partnership with the scheme, aims to empower the next generation, helping individuals into employment and strengthening local communities and the economy.

The Youth Guarantee Trailblazer initiative is a government scheme aimed at supporting young people seeking work. It is being implemented in eight areas across England, including Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and has received a share of £88m from a government scheme to support youth services and set up "youth zones" in the city.

The employment hub will offer a range of services, including careers advice, skills training, mental health support, and job matching. Figures from the Department for Education show that 3.9% of 16-17-year-olds in the area are not in education, employment, or training, higher than the national average of 3.4%. The hub is expected to provide opportunities for young people at risk.

Paul Bristow, the mayor of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, expressed support for the scheme, stating it would provide opportunities for young people at risk. Gill Wignall, CEO of the Peterborough United Foundation, also expressed support for the scheme, emphasising its potential to make a positive impact on the local community.

The stadium, which opened in 1913, has a capacity of over 15,000 fans. The responsible organization for setting up the Youth Guarantee Trailblazer at the London Road Stadium of Peterborough United is the Youth Futures Foundation. The employment hub is expected to be a significant step forward in supporting young people in the area and helping them to secure employment and training opportunities.
