New Sports Complex to be Built in Frankfurt-Riedberg

Frankfurt, Germany - The city council of Frankfurt has approved a plan for a new three-field sports hall at Riedberg, marking a significant milestone in a future-oriented major construction project in sports. The new facility will cater to the growing demand for sports facilities in the area and contribute positively to the development of the district.

The sports hall will be built along Valentin-Schmelzer-Weg, and the outdoor sports facility will include a 400-meter running track, an artificial turf large playing field, a multi-purpose playing field, an artificial turf small playing field, and two soccer courts. The combination of indoor and outdoor sports facilities will provide opportunities for clubs, schools, and the entire neighborhood.

The new sports complex will also be barrier-free, with an elevator, ensuring accessibility for all. The exact schedule for the design and awarding of the design contract for the New Sports Complex in Frankfurt-Riedberg is not publicly available at this time. A Europe-wide tendering process for the design of the new sports facility will follow after the planning funds are released.

The total costs for the construction project are estimated at around 29 million euros gross. The release of the planning funds of 1.6 million euros gross must be approved by the Main and Finance Committee. After the planning funds are released, a construction and financing plan can be created and submitted to the city council for decision-making.

Mayor Mike Josef expressed his pleasure about the decision for the new sports facility, stating that it will significantly improve the sports infrastructure in the north of Frankfurt. In December 2021, sports clubs in the area, along with the sports association, highlighted the inadequate state of existing sports facilities with a petition.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, and the success of the project in meeting the long-term growing demand will be evaluated in the coming years. The district of Riedberg is undergoing dynamic development with new residential quarters and infrastructures, making the new sports complex an essential addition to the area. The population of Riedberg has surpassed its projected 16,000 and currently stands at around 18,300.

In conclusion, the new sports complex in Frankfurt-Riedberg is set to provide state-of-the-art sports facilities for the growing population and improve the sports infrastructure in the north of Frankfurt. The project is expected to contribute positively to the development of the district and meet the long-term growing demand for sports facilities.
