Get ready to be outed, 'cause a Chinese guy's in some hot water for hawkin' fakes! Police recently cuffed a 48-year-old dude named Yang Jin for peddling counterfeit brand swag at a store in a swanky Bangkok mall. The bust went down at the Pratunam intersection in Ratchathewi district, and Agent Thatphum from the Economic crime Suppression Division announced the news on Monday, April 28th.

The mall itself wasn't specified, but the biggest complex near the intersection is none other than the famed Platinum. It turns out that undercover cops were tipped off about phony brandname goodies being flogged at the store, like duds, bags, bling, and grub, all decked out with phony logos.

Officers swooped into action, and the haul ended up totaling an eye-poppin' 27,856 items. The suspect copped to owning the shop and admitted he and his Chinese buddy had been sneaking the goods into Thailand just for this reason.

Yang Jin is being hit with a charge related to selling goods with phony trademarks, which are already registered in the kingdom. The legal proceedings are still in the works, according to Pol Maj Gen Thatphum.

In case you were wondering, this isn't the only time Thai authorities have cracked down on counterfeit merchandise. International networks have been in their sights for quite a while now[1][3][4]. There's another issue rearing its ugly head in the city, too – a massive raid netted over 100,000 counterfeit items worth a whopping 20 million baht[5]. It seems like Thailand's dealing with an epidemic of intellectual property theft!

Yang Jin, the 48-year-old Chinese man, was arrested for smuggling counterfeit brand merchandise in a store located within a Bangkok mall. The store was at the Pratunam intersection in Ratchathewi district, and the mall, although unspecified, is likely the famous Platinum mall, given its proximity to the area. The counterfeit items, totaling 27,856 items, included clothes, bags, jewelry, and food, all with false logos. This incident is not an isolated case in Thailand, as Thai authorities have been actively combating counterfeit merchandise for quite some time, targeting international networks, and having recently seized over 100,000 counterfeit items worth 20 million baht in another raid. This ongoing issue in the city is indicative of an epidemic of intellectual property theft in Thailand. (Referenced general-news articles: 1, 3, 4, and crime-and-justice article: 5)
