Lando Norris secures an exhilarating victory at the British Grand Prix in the downpour, trimming Oscar Piastri's F1 championship advantage.

In a thrilling turn of events at the 2025 British Grand Prix, McLaren's Lando Norris clinched a hard-fought victory at Silverstone, thanks to a 10-second penalty imposed on his teammate, Oscar Piastri.

Piastri, who was leading the race strongly after passing Max Verstappen early on, was penalised for a safety car infringement during a restart. The stewards found that Piastri had accelerated before the safety car restart, then suddenly slowed down, a clear breach of rules designed for safety and fairness reasons.

This penalty was decisive in the race outcome. When Piastri served the 10-second penalty during his final pit stop, it allowed Norris, who was two seconds behind, to inherit the lead. Despite Piastri's attempts to fight back after the penalty, Norris held on to win by 6.8 seconds.

The incident cut the gap between Norris and Piastri to eight points, with Piastri now leading by eight points overall, a reduction from the previous 15-point advantage.

Meanwhile, Verstappen started on pole but ended up fifth after spinning from second behind Piastri at a safety-car restart. Nico Hulkenberg, racing for Sauber, secured a long-awaited podium finish in 239 races, coming in third. Sauber's last top-three finish was in 2012.

The race was incident-packed, with numerous crashes and spins, particularly for the rookies. Isack Hadjar, Kimi Antonelli, Gabriel Bortoleto, Liam Lawson, Franco Colapinto, and Esteban Ocon all failed to finish. Oliver Bearman made it to the end for Haas but crashed into teammate Esteban Ocon.

After the race, Norris expressed his joy and gratitude, saying, "This is a dream, winning at home. It's beautiful." George Russell, who asked for slick tires on a slippery track and spun off, finishing 10th, also shared his feelings, saying, "It's a tough day at the office, but we'll regroup and come back stronger."

With this victory, Norris cuts the gap between him and Piastri in the championship standings, setting the stage for an exciting battle in the upcoming races.

Despite Piastri's strong lead early in the race, a safety car infringement during a restart led to a 10-second penalty, enabling Lando Norris to take the lead in the sports event, the British Grand Prix. As a result, Norris, racing for McLaren, clinched a thrilling victory in the racing event, with Piastri, his teammate, finishing behind, setting the stage for a crucial championship battle.
