Lakes Under Full Lockdown: L516 Requires Repair Starting Tuesday

The Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Traffic has announced that state road 516 between Lautenthal and Seesen will be fully closed for repairs starting Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The work is expected to be completed by mid-October 2025, with an estimated cost of approximately 135,000 euros.

During the closure, traffic will be diverted. For traffic from Lautenthal to Seesen, the detour applies via state road 515 to Langelsheim, onto federal road 82 towards Seesen, and onto federal road 248 to Seesen. Conversely, traffic from Seesen to Lautenthal will take the route via federal road 248 from Seesen, onto federal road 82 towards Langelsheim, and then state road 515.

It is important to note that the Asklepios Clinic can only be accessed from Seesen, and the Sternenplatz parking lot will not be accessible during this time. Through traffic from Lautenthal to Langelsheim and vice versa on state road 515 will be regulated by a traffic light system. Traffic lights will also regulate through traffic during the road closure.

However, no specific information about alternative routes for drivers was provided in the press release, and the press release did not mention any potential impact on public transportation. The state will bear the cost of the road repairs.

Additionally, the State Forests will use the full closure to carry out tree felling work in this period. The responsibility for financing the road repairs on state road 516 between Lautenthal and Seesen, starting in September 2025, is the Lower Saxony state government's.

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for their trips between Lautenthal and the Asklepios Clinic, as the detour adds distance and time to trips.
