Lahn-Kinzig Railway: Restrictions Due to Construction Work - Lahn-Kinzig Railway faces months of closures for major upgrades

Major upgrades are coming to the Lahn-Kinzig Railway, but they will bring long disruptions for passengers. From March, sections of the line will close in stages, with full shutdowns lasting until mid-December. The work includes new signal technology, track renewals, and safer level crossings.

The first closure begins on March 1, when trains between Gießen and Hungen stop running. This is followed by a two-week halt between Nidda and Gelnhausen from May 9 to May 23. The biggest disruption comes later: from late June through mid-December, the entire route between Gießen and Nidda will close. Flixbus will replace trains during all shutdowns.

Five new electronic signal boxes will be installed along the line. These will allow drivers to control switches and signals with a mouse click. Safety improvements also include rebuilding twelve level crossings and upgrading ten others with modern systems.

The upgrades aim to modernise the railway's infrastructure and improve safety. Passengers will face months of bring a trailer while the work is carried out. The changes are expected to bring more reliable services once complete.
