Railway labor unions in France plan a week-long strike due to disagreements over wages and work arrangement. In retaliation, Valérie Pécresse, President of Île-de-France Mobilités, suggests a ban on strikes during transport peak hours.

Taking a Stand. Since May 5, the Paris transportation network has faced disruptions due to the SNCF's social action. Valérie Pécresse, the President of Île-de-France Mobilités, voiced her frustration on France 2's talk show. She advocated for workplace reform to combat the issues causing "disarray in Parisians' lives." Her proposal includes a "full service" during peak hours for the working public.

"Commuting to work on a strike day is no easy feat," she laments. "I can't fathom how a key public service company could obstruct Parisians, disrupt their lives by halting transportation," she stresses, as the current regional President of Île-de-France. That's why she wishes to outlaw strikes during the busiest transit periods. If a law regulates SNCF strikes, Valérie Pécresse references the stirring frustration, exhaustion, and exasperation of the French struggling to travel freely, while some hold monthly or even yearly transit passes.

"It's a right, a fundamental freedom," she added.

What's on the Horizon for SNCF? ## Multiple Potential Laws

Laws have already been suggested, such as one proposing to temporarily suspend the right to strike for personnel and agents between 6:30 and 9:30 am, and 5:00 and 8:00 pm during continuous stretches of up to seven days, whose annual aggregate cannot exceed 30 days[1]. This legislation, passed in its first reading in April, was championed by Senator Hervé Marseille. However, this proposed legislation has not yet been voted on by the National Assembly[1].

Keep in mind, these suggested laws could encounter constitutional challenges...

"Valérie Pécresse, the regional President of Île-de-France, has proposed a new policy-and-legislation aimed at combating the disruptions caused by SNCF's social action on the Paris transportation network. This includes a potential law to outlaw strikes during the busiest transit periods, a move intended to cater to the general-news of commuters who struggle to travel freely, especially those holding monthly or yearly transit passes."

"If passed, the proposed law would temporarily suspend the right to strike for SNCF personnel and agents during selected peak hours, potentially facing constitutional challenges, as it stands yet to be voted on by the National Assembly."
