LA County Sheriff's Deputy Fired Over Deceptive TikTok Videos

Ivan D. Sarabia-Medina, a 16-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, has been let go due to a series of misleading TikTok videos that he posted while on duty.

According to documents unveiled during the investigation, it was not Sarabia-Medina's TikToks that led to his dismissal, but rather his dishonesty towards internal affairs. One of the videos, which featured a lawyer explaining unlawful search and seizure rules, was recorded while Sarabia-Medina claimed to be off duty.

Investigators saved 16 separate TikTok videos from Sarabia-Medina, one of which showed him picking up a discounted meal from In-N-Out while on duty. A receipt for this purchase was found, providing evidence that contradicted Sarabia-Medina's claim.

Sarabia-Medina was interrogated about his TikTok posts and had to answer for each 'stupid decision' he made while trying to become a social media star. He admitted to pretending to be on duty when he was not, for the purpose of entertaining his followers.

In one video, Sarabia-Medina showed off stun grenades, while another video featured him asking viewers to like his TikTok posts. In a bid to discourage street fights and encourage court proceedings, Sarabia-Medina posted a video displaying a stun gun with the title '15000 Volts, Please Fight Us In Court, Not On the Street'.

However, investigators found evidence contradicting Sarabia-Medina's claims that some of his videos were recorded at the end of his shift. For instance, a video that showed his wristwatch at 2:05 AM was actually recorded during his duty hours.

Moreover, Sarabia-Medina was caught lying about the date, time, and being off duty during the filming of a TikTok video. He claimed the time in one of his videos was not accurate, stating it was to portray being tired at the end of his shift.

The name of the prosecutor in the investigation against Sarabia-Medina was not publicly disclosed. Sarabia-Medina's TikTok videos ultimately led to his termination, underscoring the importance of honesty and professionalism in law enforcement.
