In the world of high school football in Southern California, there have been some exciting developments and notable performances over the past week.

Whitney High claimed a decisive victory in the first 605 League cluster meet at Clark Park, with both varsity races won by the team. The standout athletes of the event were Whitney seniors Cristian Ishiki and Cerritos senior Dani Romero, who claimed the overall winner titles for the boys' and girls' races respectively.

Meanwhile, La Mirada High (2-2) is gearing up for their next game against La Habra High, marking the completion of the non-league portion of their schedule. The team's sophomore transfer quarterback Ace Faagata has been a significant contributor, with impressive stats of 24 completed passes out of 39 for 250 yards in 10 quarters before getting injured. Unfortunately, Faagata is expected to be out of action for 2 to 3 weeks due to a lower calf injury sustained on Sept. 5.

La Mirada High suffered a 54-14 loss to Western High on Sept. 10, their worst loss since a 60-14 defeat against Servite High in Sept. 2023. Western High outgained La Mirada High 420-257 in the game, with a 589-332 advantage in all-purpose yards.

Paramount High, on the other hand, lost to Orange High 44-0 in their last game after scoring 90 points in the first three games. Senior running backs Diego Cerritos and Daron Walker have been key contributors for Paramount High, with Cerritos having 29 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns, and Walker having 26 carries for 123 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Pirates have averaged three sacks through the first three games. Last season, Paramount defeated Norwalk 28-7 in the first meeting between the teams since 2014. The upcoming game between Paramount High (3-1) and Norwalk High (4-0) is the HMG-Community News Game of the Week.

Elsewhere, Norwalk High has an undefeated record and edged Venice High 28-27 in their last game. St. Anthony fell to Summit High 21-0 in their last game, with Valley Christian having won the previous two meetings in 2016 and 2017. Valley Christian (2-2) played St. Anthony High (0-3) on Sept. 18, with junior quarterback Graham Lunzer completing 23 of 34 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns for Valley Christian.

La Habra High was edged by Mira Costa High 35-33 in their last game for their first loss of the season. Quarterback D.J. Mitchell has passed for 729 yards and eight touchdowns for La Habra High this season.

As for coaching changes, Dyon Brown is expected to take over as the Head Coach of the La Mirada High School football team when Lucas Mealy ends his tenure. Currently, Lucas Mealy is listed as Head Coach, but Dyon Brown is also listed on the coaching staff, suggesting he may take over.

In the game against Western High, freshman wide receiver Kaiden Wardlow scored a touchdown in the first quarter on an 11-yard pass from Cuevas. Quarterback Isaac Cuevas took over for Faagata in the game, completing 10 passes for 80 yards.

In the three victories, Paramount quarterbacks Zechariah Moreno and Nicko Hernandez have combined for 404 yards and seven touchdowns, while Serafin Solis led the team on the ground with 149 yards and three touchdowns.

In conclusion, the high school football scene in Southern California is heating up, with exciting games and performances to look forward to in the coming weeks.
