L3Harris Wins South Korea's Next-Gen AEW&C Aircraft Deal Worth $2.2B

L3Harris Technologies has been selected by South Korea to lead the development of its next-generation airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft. The project, valued at KRW3.1 trillion ($2.2 billion), is expected to enhance the Republic of Korea Armed Forces' air surveillance and control capabilities.

L3Harris' Phoenix AEW platform outperformed competitors Boeing's E-7A and Saab's GlobalEye, securing the contract based on operational suitability, operating costs, and cooperation with local defense companies. The project, set to be completed by 2032, will use Bombardier's Global 6500 airframe and Elta's ELW-2085 radar, offering 360° coverage.

L3Harris will act as the lead integrator, with Korean Air leading in-country work and sustainment. The company has agreements with Korean Air, LIG Nex1, and Ace Antenna for supporting the aircraft and mission system equipment. The contract is expected to be signed around November.

L3Harris' Phoenix AEW platform has been chosen for South Korea's AEW&C project, marking a significant advancement in the country's air surveillance and control capabilities. The project, involving local and international collaboration, is set to enhance the Republic of Korea Armed Forces' operational readiness.
