Kyrie Irving's New Deal Fallout Leads to Trade Demand

According to reports, Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets couldn't seal a new contract, leading to a trade request sent to the team. This off-season, Irving will be an unrestricted free agent.

CNN reached out to Irving's agent and the Nets' representative for comment on the situation.

Throughout this season, Irving averaged 27.7 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game, pushing the Nets to a record-breaking 31 wins and 20 losses.

Insights:

While the kneecap-tight negotiations resulted in a stalemate, Irving's career took a turn for the unexpected. In February 2023, NYC's heartbreak transformed into Dallas' Cowboy's delight when Kyrie Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks received Irving in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round pick, and multiple second-rounders. To sweeten the pot, the Nets included Markieff Morris in the deal.

Now, in his second year with the Mavericks, Irving continues to shine, averaging 24.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. His current deal with the Mavs, the massive three-year, $120 million contract, includes a player option worth a whopping $44 million for the 2025-26 season.

Rumors are swirling about new contract negotiations for Irving at the end of the 2024-25 season. With the potential to opt out, Irving has a golden opportunity to secure a five-year, $313 million extension.

As the Mavericks' star's contract drama unfolds, Irving's future with the team is left hanging in the balance, promising a thrilling off-season ahead.
