Kyrgyzstan President Arrives in Astana for "Central Asia - Italy" Summit

President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan has arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan, according to the government's press service, as reported by our website. The visit comes ahead of the "Central Asia - Italy" summit, scheduled for today.

Footage from the government's Telegram channel shows President Japarov's arrival in Astana, where he was met by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov. Japarov's participation in the summit is expected to contribute to regional cooperation efforts.

Prior to Japarov's arrival, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan had already landed in Astana to join the summit. The Central Asian summit brings together leaders from Italy and all five Central Asian republics: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni received a warm welcome from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev upon her arrival at the airport. The Aкорде broadcast a ceremonial welcoming ceremony for Meloni followed by talks between the leaders.

The summit aims to deepen strategic partnerships between Italy and Central Asia, support regional cooperation, and focus on economic and energy cooperation, transport and infrastructure development, addressing environmental and security challenges, and broader cultural and humanitarian ties.

Key agenda items include expanding trade and economic relations, particularly in natural resources, renewable energy, and critical infrastructure developments. The summit is also expected to shore up Italy’s role as a trade partner, reinforcing the EU’s Global Gateway strategy to attract investments.

A Joint Declaration is expected to reaffirm commitments to multilateral dialogue and sustainable development, laying the groundwork for future cooperation across economic, environmental, security, and cultural domains. The summit follows recent agreements on border delimitation and tripoint junctions between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, viewed as milestones for peace and prosperity in the region.

Discussions in the "Central Asia - Italy" summit, scheduled to take place today, are anticipated to delve into the realms of politics and general-news, as regional cooperation efforts and strategic partnerships between Italy and Central Asia are on the agenda. President Sadyr Japarov's participation in the meeting is expected to contribute to these collaborative efforts, focusing on trade, renewable energy, critical infrastructure developments, and more.
