Kyren Wilson triumphs in the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open, securing a decisive win over top-seeded Judd Trump
In the upcoming International Championship 2024, the snooker world is eagerly anticipating a highly-anticipated first-round match between Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mink Nutcharut, the women's world ranking leader, and a two-horse race between Kyren Wilson and Judd Trump is shaping up to be the main event of the 2025 Snooker season.
Kyren Wilson, currently world number two, has been on a roll this season. He recently clinched his tenth ranking title at the 2025 Shanghai Masters, defeating Ali Carter 11–9 in the final. Wilson's impressive run also includes the 2024 World Championship and multiple recent wins such as the 2024 Northern Ireland Open and the 2025 German Masters.
Judd Trump, world number one, is hot on Wilson's heels with £1,978,200 in prize money, while Wilson trails closely behind with £1,348,300[2][5]. Wilson's consistent performances and key victories over Trump in high-profile finals suggest a strong competitive dynamic between these two top players[1][4].
The Home Nations Series, consisting of the English Open, Northern Ireland Open, Scottish Open, and Welsh Open, has been a battleground for these two players. So far, both Wilson and Trump are the only players to have won two tournaments this season[6]. The Scottish Open will take place from December 9th to 15th, and the Welsh Open from February 10th to 16th.
The International Championship 2024, with a field of 128 players, will kick off in Nanjing, China, on November 3rd[3]. Other notable matches include Ding Junhui and Reanne Evans, a twelve-time world champion, squaring off in the first round.
The Home Nations Series has existed since the 2016/2017 season, with Neil Robertson taking three of the four titles, although he is missing the Northern Ireland Open[7]. No player has yet managed to win all four trophies of the Home Nations Series.
In the final of the 2024 Northern Ireland Open, Wilson won a commanding 9-3, with Judd Trump contributing a century break of 143 during the match[8]. The final was a highlight of the tournament.
As the 2025 Snooker season progresses, the rivalry between Wilson and Trump promises to be one of the most exciting aspects to watch. With both players consistently delivering top-tier performances, fans can expect a thrilling season ahead.
