Kuwait's commemoration of Malaysia's 68th National Day and 62nd Malaysia Day emphasizes friendship and advancement, honoring the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations.
Celebrating a Strong Partnership: Malaysia and Kuwait Commemorate National Days and Look Forward to Future Collaboration
The Embassy of Malaysia in Kuwait recently hosted a grand celebration to mark the 68th National Day and the 62nd Malaysia Day. The event, which commemorated the 60th year of strong bilateral relations between the two nations, was a testament to the fruitful partnership that exists between Malaysia and Kuwait.
His Excellency Alauddin Mohammad Nor, the Malaysian Ambassador, expressed his gratitude towards Malaysian companies and agencies for their contributions to the event's success. Notable mentions included TNB REMACO, Alypz, and the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board.
In his address, Ambassador Alauddin highlighted the various sectors in which the partnership between the two nations extends. These include economic relations, defense, security, energy, finance, food security, tourism, culture, healthcare, education, and person-to-person exchanges.
The event also underscored the significance of education in the relationship between Malaysia and Kuwait. With approximately 131,000 international students currently studying in Malaysia, the Malaysian government aims to increase this number to 250,000 by the end of the year.
The partnership between the two nations is also reflected in the increasing number of tourists from Kuwait. In 2024, Malaysia welcomed 11,289 tourists from Kuwait, a 17.2 percent increase compared to pre-pandemic figures in 2019. This trend of increasing tourist arrivals from Kuwait continued, with a 35.77 percent rise in tourist arrivals recorded from Kuwait in the first half of the year.
Kuwait was identified as Malaysia's 44th largest trading partner in 2024, with total bilateral trade exceeding USD 622 million. Malaysian exports to Kuwait reached USD 168.9 million in 2024, while imports from Kuwait amounted to USD 453.1 million.
Looking ahead, the 47th ASEAN Summit is scheduled for October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, reinforcing the unwavering commitment to cooperation between Malaysia and Kuwait. Furthermore, an education exhibition, "The Big 10 Most Popular Malaysian Universities," is scheduled for 19 September 2025 at the embassy, aiming to explore educational opportunities for Kuwaiti students and strengthen academic ties.
The Malaysian government has also launched the "Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026" to attract international patients and promote healthcare facilities. This initiative underscores the commitment of both nations to continued collaboration and growth in the years ahead.
His Excellency Dr. Nader Abdullah Mohammad Al-Jallal, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the State of Kuwait, was present at the event, further emphasizing the importance of the relationship between the two countries. The celebration honoured past achievements and inspired a collective vision for growth and collaboration in the years ahead.
