Kuwait prepares for a humid August, with weather forecasters anticipating a gradual decrease in temperature starting in September.

Kuwait is currently experiencing the effects of the Mirzam season, which officially began on July 29 and will last until August 11 [1]. During this period, temperatures reach their peak, with highs soaring as much as 52°C, marking the most intense and hottest stretch of the summer [3][4].

However, a change is on the horizon. Meteorologist Issa Ramadan has forecasted a notable increase in humidity starting Wednesday, continuing through the weekend and early next week [2]. This rise in humidity is expected to be particularly pronounced in coastal areas, creating oppressive conditions.

As Mirzam ends on August 11, the weather will gradually transition into the Kulaibin phase, which is characterized by increasing humidity and oppressive conditions, especially along the coast [3][4]. Despite the seasonal transition from July to August, the weather will remain oppressive due to the rising relative humidity [6].

From August 11 to early September, a gradual cooling trend is expected to begin. The extreme heat of Mirzam (around 52°C) will gradually subside, with temperatures in mid to late August remaining very high but somewhat less extreme than the peak Mirzam days [1][3].

In addition to the temperature change, winds are also expected to shift. During the peak Mirzam heat, moderate to strong northwesterly winds stir up dust and raise sea waves. By mid-August, winds are predicted to shift to southeasterly along the coast, driving humidity increases [3]. Winds will gradually subside after August 11, but this shift in direction will influence coastal humidity and weather patterns.

The first week of August is experiencing a rise in humidity levels, with the increase expected to peak from mid-August onward [5]. Astronomer Adel Al-Saadoun predicts a gradual drop in temperatures over the coming days [7]. The traditional appearance of the Suhail star, a historic sign of cooling weather in the Arabian Peninsula, is expected in Kuwait around September 5 or 6 [8].

Despite these changes, conditions are expected to remain challenging. Meteorologist Issa Ramadan has warned that August is one of the most extreme months in terms of heat and humidity [2]. The Meteorological Department Director expects conditions to stabilize by Tuesday evening [9]. Dust-raising winds exceeding 60 km/h are affecting open areas, adding to the oppressive conditions [10].

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade when possible, and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. As always, keep a close eye on weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this transition period.

Science predicts a transition in Kuwait's weather from August 11, as the Mirzam season ends. The Kulaibin phase marked by increased humidity and oppressive conditions, especially along the coast, will begin during this time.

While a gradual cooling trend is expected from August 11 to early September, August is predicted to remain one of the most extreme months in terms of heat and humidity, according to environmental-science expert Issa Ramadan.
