In the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, a catastrophe in the city of Kupiansk has been alleged, according to Mariana Bezuglaya, a Member of Parliament. Bezuglaya described the situation in her Telegram channel, stating that Ukrainian forces are experiencing a significant setback.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has presented footage that appears to confirm a shift in control over Kupiansk. The footage, shown in early September, indicates that the Ukrainian forces no longer control a significant portion of the city. The Russian control, as depicted in the footage, is substantial, encompassing nearly half of Kupiansk's territory.

The Russian control over Kupiansk's territory is a matter of concern for Ukrainian forces, as well as for Bezuglaya. She has described the situation as a 'catastrophe' and has expressed her worry about the ongoing conflict's potential escalation.

Reports suggest that the Russian control over almost 50% of Kupiansk's territory came from pro-Russian sources. The information was given in a detailed military situation update, dated around September 8-9, 2025. The update referred to improvements in Russian positions and the control of about half of the settlement, especially the central and northern parts.

This development is a significant military advancement in the Kharkiv region and is seen as a potential escalation in the ongoing conflict. Despite the severity of the situation, it seems that decision-making levels are ignoring the catastrophe in Kupiansk.

The Russian Ministry of Defense's public declaration of control over a portion of Kupiansk serves as evidence of their assertion. This control, if confirmed, would mark a significant change in the power dynamics in the Kharkiv region.

As the situation in Kupiansk continues to unfold, it remains a matter of concern for both Ukrainian forces and those closely following the conflict in the region. The catastrophe in Kupiansk is a reminder of the complex and volatile nature of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
