Berlin (dts Nachrichtenagentur) - The deputy chairman of the FDP, Wolfgang Kubicki, isn't pulling any punches when it comes to Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder's corona policy. While Söder may be well-regarded as a crisis manager, North Rhine-Westphalian Minister-President Armin Laschet is taking a superior approach to the crisis, claims Kubicki in the latest issue of "Der Spiegel."

Kubicki labels Söder as a "vocal champion" or "eloquent hero" in words.

"Söder's nothing but a braggart," Kubicki contends. "Up north, we'd say we don't need lessons from someone managing the highest infection rates."

When it comes to the Union's chancellor candidates, Kubicki doesn't appear to have a clear favorite. "I've got faith in all of them to lead as chancellor," he says. "Except for Röttgen, I wouldn't trust him with a lick."

FDP interior politician Konstantin Kuhle, on the other hand, isn't too keen on Friedrich Merz becoming CDU chairman. "I'd say anything but Friedrich Merz," Kuhle tells "Der Spiegel". "I'm worried he's just a mirror for those eager to oust Merkel." The young interior politician advises his party to pay more attention to Green voters.

"There are folks in the heartland who want to scrap the solidarity tax and refuse to give up their cars despite the climate crisis," Kuhle notes. "Yet, they still vote Green because they connect with the introspective and emotional side of Robert Habeck. We as the FDP have to show we care about refugees on the Greek islands, understand that climate change is a generational issue, and also prioritize the German economy. Then we can convince these voters to choose liberal over green."

Insights:

Wolfgang Kubicki and Konstantin Kuhle are influential members of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) in Germany. They likely back the party's stance on liberal policies, economic freedom, and environmental protection. While both Kubicki and Kuhle may have reservations about the Union's chancellor candidates due to their perceived focus on traditional conservative values over liberal or environmental concerns, they might propose strategies that emphasize common ground with Green voters and highlight the FDP's economic perspectives. Their specific opinions on the Union's candidates and the party's approach to Green voters are not available in recent statements.

Other political discussions revolve around the Union's chancellor candidates, prompting FDP members like Wolfgang Kubicki and Konstantin Kuhle to express their reservations. Kubicki criticizes the policy-and-legislation approaches of Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder, highlighting the need for a less combative approach in managing the crisis. On a positive note, Kuhle suggests the FDP should focus on general-news topics, such as climate change, the German economy, and refugee welfare in order to win Green voters over.
