Krefeld's High School Cup match puts them up against Bundesliga player Minden in a rigorous strength test

In the upcoming DHB Cup match this Saturday, HSG Krefeld Niederrhein will face off against Bundesliga newcomers TSV Grün-Weiß Minden. The encounter promises tension, pace, and high-class handball, with the Eagles aiming to make a bold statement and upset the favourites.

Coach Mark Schmetz has analysed TSV Grün-Weiß Minden thoroughly, describing them as a very solid team that makes few mistakes. The Minden-based club secured promotion to the Bundesliga on the last matchday of the 2024/25 2nd Handball Bundesliga season, avenging a past relegation loss to Hüttenberg in 2011.

TSV Grün-Weiß Minden boasts a compact 6:0 defense and is well-staffed on the wings and half positions. They have two strong playmakers in Weck and Weber, and their physical strength and consistent play have been on display in recent test games. The team narrowly beat HSG Nordhorn-Lingen in a semi-final and lost to TBV Lemgo Lippe in the final of a recent four-team tournament.

The Eagles, on the other hand, have shown they can keep up with higher-class opponents like Essen and Nordhorn in the past, suggesting they may also compete well against TSV Grün-Weiß Minden. However, they will be missing left wing Cedric Marquard (injured) and goalkeeper Anel Durmic (U19 WM) for the match.

HSG Krefeld Niederrhein is eager to appear bold and annoy the favourites in this first competitive match of the new season. Coach Mark Schmetz is looking forward to the duel and wants to put the team's defense against TSV Grün-Weiß Minden's while playing their own game.

The traditional club from East Westphalia, TSV Grün-Weiß Minden, is considered the favourite due to its recent return to the world's strongest league. They have strengthened their team during the summer break with six new additions, with Malte Donker, a center back from ThSV Eisenach, being the most prominent new addition and named the new captain.

Tickets for this highly anticipated season opener are already available. The match will take place at 7 pm this Saturday, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for both teams.
