Krasnoyarsk launches annual tick control with 606-hectare treatment plan

Krasnoyarsk has launched its annual tick control programme, with treatments starting over the weekend. The city plans to cover over 606 hectares this year under two municipal contracts. Officials remind residents that only public or undemarcated lands are included—private property owners must handle their own treatments. Before spraying, specialists carry out entomological surveys to check for ticks. If any are found, the area is treated with chemicals approved as safe for people and animals. However, the process only works in dry, warm conditions, as rain can wash away the substances.

Treatment has already taken place on Sergei Lazo Street, Energetikov Street, and the Chizhi and Preobrazhensky residential districts. The focus remains on large open spaces near green zones and housing areas where ticks have been reported before. Warning signs are posted in treated locations, and residents are advised to stay clear for the first few days. Those who spot ticks in parks, squares, or along roads on municipal land can report them by calling 223-85-05.

The programme aims to reduce tick populations in high-risk areas across Krasnoyarsk. Residents with private land must arrange and fund their own treatments. Officials urge caution near treated zones until the chemicals settle.
