Krasnodar shivers through its coldest May in four years and wettest in 50
Krasnodar has endured one of its coldest and wettest Mays in decades. Records show May 2026 as the second-chilliest since 2000, with temperatures far below average. Heavy rain has also broken long-standing records, making it the soggiest May in at least 50 years. The month began with unusual weather patterns that persisted until its final days. By 31 May, average temperatures had dropped to +15.7°C—2.1°C lower than the seasonal norm. Only May 2022 was colder in the 21st century.
Rainfall proved even more extreme. Over the month, Krasnodar recorded 161 mm of precipitation, nearly two and a half times the usual amount. On the last day alone, 31 mm fell, accounting for almost half the typical May total. Forecasters warned of further downpours before the month’s end. Relief is on the horizon, though not immediate. While rain should ease in early June, temperatures will take longer to recover. Normal conditions are not expected until the second week of the month.
The abnormal weather has left Krasnodar with its coldest May in four years and its wettest in half a century. Residents can look forward to drier days soon, but warmer temperatures will return only in mid-June. Until then, the region remains under the influence of unseasonably cool and damp conditions.
