Krasnodar region braces for flooding as snowmelt and heavy rain persist

Heavy rain, snow, and melting ice have raised water levels along the Kuban River and its tributaries in Russia’s Krasnodar region. Authorities remain alert as forecasts predict further downpours, sleet, and icy conditions over the next two days.

The situation prompted sirens to sound in Nizhnebakansky rural settlement after river levels climbed sharply. However, readings from Sensor No. 57 later showed the water had stabilised, easing immediate concerns.

With snow continuing to melt and more precipitation expected, officials have extended the flood warning by another 24 hours. Emergency teams are on standby, ready to activate wider alerts if levels rise again. Residents have been advised to stay informed through official updates. They are also urged to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours as conditions remain unpredictable.

The extended warning means communities must stay prepared for possible flooding. While river levels in Nizhnebakansky have steadied, ongoing snowmelt and heavy rain could still push waterways beyond safe limits. Authorities will keep monitoring the situation closely.
