Krasnodar officials tackle water supply challenges in Kuban region
Lawmakers from the Krasnodar Legislative Assembly took part in a conference on the sustainable use of water resources. Vladimir Lybanev, chair of the Committee on Industry, Construction, and Housing and Utilities, and his deputy, Ivan Zhilishchikov, joined other participants in discussing pressing water supply challenges.
The event brought together representatives from federal and regional authorities, local governments across the Krasnodar Territory, and scientific and expert communities.
Organized by the Krasnodar Territory administration, Krasnodar Vodokanal LLC, and St. Petersburg State University's Geological Center, the conference—titled "Sustainable Water Resource Management in the Krasnodar Territory"—focused on water use, environmental protection, and the assessment of groundwater reserves in the Kuban region.
"One of the most critical tasks facing regional and local authorities in housing and utilities is ensuring access to high-quality drinking water for Kuban residents," emphasized Lybanev. "The insights of the scientific community are particularly valuable here. This conference provides an opportunity to work alongside researchers in addressing urgent challenges—balancing environmental safety with the need to maintain a high quality of life for our population."
During the plenary session, proposals were presented on the use of Krasnodar's groundwater, along with an assessment of existing aquifer conditions.
In a roundtable discussion, participants also examined water supply issues in specific municipalities across the region.
