Krasnodar Krai's marksmanship schools forge Russia's next shooting champions
Krasnodar Krai has become a key hub for competitive shooting in Russia. The region's marksmanship schools train over 850 athletes across seven cities, supported by 28 dedicated coaches. Among them are Olympic champions, world medallists, and rising stars who have put the area on the map for shooting excellence.
The regional marksmanship school system operates branches in Anapa, Yeysk, Krasnodar, Krymsk, Novorossiysk, Sochi, and Pavlovskaya. These facilities collectively train 258 athletes, with the largest centre located in Krasnodar itself. Two standout competitors from this school, Leila Kruchinina and Melissa Yarchuk, recently made their mark at the Russian Championship in Izhevsk.
Kruchinina claimed gold in the air pistol solo event and added a silver in the 60-shot air pistol. Yarchuk, meanwhile, took bronze in the 60-shot rapid-fire pistol. Both women train under the same programme, showcasing the school's ability to produce top-tier talent. The region has also produced internationally recognised shooters. Mikhail Azarenko, an Honoured Master of Sport and Russian record holder, has won 12 major medals, including Olympic gold in 2012 and bronze in 2020 for the 10m air rifle. His career also includes three World Championship medals, five World Cup podiums, and two European titles. Other champions from Krasnodar Krai include Alexander Zemlin, Yulia Lizun, Alexander Plotnikov, and Yasmina Mukhtarova.
With a strong network of schools and a track record of success, Krasnodar Krai continues to develop elite shooters. The region's athletes regularly compete at national and international levels, bringing home medals and reinforcing its reputation. The system's 28 coaches and specialised training centres remain central to this ongoing achievement.
