Krasnodar battles severe flooding as snowmelt overwhelms drainage systems
Heavy flooding has struck several streets in Krasnodar after melting snow overwhelmed drainage systems on Monday. Governor Wenieamin Kondratjew is overseeing emergency response efforts, with support from the regional Ministry for Civil Defence and Emergency Situations (MChS).
The Municipal City Management Center confirmed that standing water had disrupted traffic on multiple roads. Among the affected areas were Yekaterininskaya, Druzhnaya, Yesenina, Pereyaslavskaya, Agrokhimicheskaya, Ratnoy Slavy, Komsomolskaya Street in the Industrialny settlement, and Angarsky Lane. Emergency teams were quickly deployed with pumping equipment to clear the water.
Weather conditions are set to worsen. Temperatures dropped to -4°C overnight on Monday, and forecasts predict sleet, heavy snowfall, and icy roads on Tuesday. Daytime highs will barely reach between -1°C and +1°C. The wet snow is also expected to weigh down power lines and trees, raising concerns about further disruptions. Governor Kondratjew remains in charge of coordinating relief operations as the region braces for more challenging conditions.
The flooding has already caused travel difficulties across Krasnodar, with more snow and freezing temperatures on the way. Emergency services continue working to reduce water levels and prepare for potential hazards from accumulating ice and snow. Residents have been advised to stay cautious as conditions remain unstable.
