Krasnodar battles record snowfall as temperatures plunge to –13°C

Krasnodar is grappling with severe winter conditions as heavy snowfall and plummeting temperatures grip the city. Authorities have intensified efforts to keep roads and pavements clear, with hundreds of workers and machines deployed across the region. Residents can also report uncleared areas via a dedicated hotline as the cold snap continues.

Overnight on January 13, city crews treated over 450 kilometres of roads to combat black ice. Municipal teams remain on enhanced duty, working around the clock to clear sidewalks, pedestrian paths, and bus stop pavilions. Nearly 600 workers are involved in the operation, supported by 27 combined road-clearing machines.

Around 500 tons of de-icing materials have already been spread across pedestrian zones. Yury Proskuryakov, First Deputy Head of the Krasnodar City Administration, oversees the response, ensuring housing and communal services stay operational. While residential property management companies handle snow removal on apartment premises, residents can flag neglected areas by calling +7 (861) 218-92-70 or 218-92-04.

Forecasters predict light snow tonight, with temperatures dropping to –13°C (9°F). Tomorrow will bring drier conditions, though daytime highs will only reach between –2°C and –4°C (28°F to 25°F).

The city’s efforts focus on maintaining safe travel routes as freezing weather persists. With crews working nonstop and hotlines available for public reports, Krasnodar aims to minimise disruptions from the ongoing winter storm. Residents are urged to stay cautious amid icy conditions and low temperatures.
