Krasnodar battles extreme winter as snow and floods paralyze the region
Severe winter weather has disrupted daily life across Krasnodar and surrounding regions. Heavy snowfall, icy roads, and rising river levels have forced authorities to take urgent action. Residents are being warned to stay cautious as conditions remain hazardous.
Since January 12, heavy snowfall has blanketed Krasnodar, causing chaos on the roads. A stuck truck and traffic jams blocked key routes, slowing movement across the city. Municipal crews responded by spreading over 10 tons of de-icing agents to keep streets passable.
At Krasnodar airport, poor visibility and icy runways led to temporary flight restrictions. Travellers faced delays as ground teams worked to clear snow and ensure safe takeoffs and landings.
The situation is equally serious in the Foothill Districts. Emergency services are closely watching the Shebsh and Psekups rivers, which have reached dangerously high levels. Meanwhile, the Pshish River overflowed in Apsheronsk District, flooding nearby roads and forcing temporary traffic bans.
In mountain areas, snow-clearing operations have limited freight traffic on vital passes leading to the Black Sea coast. Crews in towns like Timashevsk and Anapa are also working to clear streets and apply anti-icing treatments.
Forecasters warn that snow, rain, and icy conditions could last until January 14. Authorities are urging drivers to watch for black ice and advising pedestrians to stay alert on slippery sidewalks.
The region remains on high alert as winter storms continue to create hazards. Residents and visitors are advised to check updates regularly and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency teams are actively managing the situation, but risks from flooding and icy roads persist.
