Krasnaya Polyana battles heavy snow as crews rush to clear mountain roads

Heavy snowfall has hit Krasnaya Polyana, a mountain district near Sochi, marking the season’s first major winter weather. Overnight, road crews began clearing operations to keep key routes open. Mayor Andrei Proshunin shared updates on the situation through his Telegram channel early this morning.

The snowfall arrived suddenly, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. Teams deployed seven pieces of road-clearing machinery and spread 32 tons of de-icing materials across priority areas. Their focus was on maintaining access to hospitals, schools, and public transport routes.

Forecasters warn that more snow is on the way, with up to 25 mm of precipitation expected in Sochi’s mountain regions today. As conditions worsen, officials have reminded drivers that summer tyres are banned in the resort’s mountain cluster. Violations could lead to penalties or restricted access.

The clearing operation continues as crews work to prevent disruptions. Residents and visitors are advised to check tyre regulations before travelling into higher altitudes. Further updates on road conditions will likely come from the mayor’s official channel.
