Kraken’s Brandon Montour Inspires Indigenous Youth on the Ice

Montour, who is of Mohawk descent, grew up on the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve. Unlike these students, he never had visits from professional athletes as a child. This made his connection with the 5-to-18-year-olds particularly meaningful.

The skating session gave young Indigenous athletes a chance to engage with a role model in hockey. Montour’s involvement highlights the importance of representation and support for these communities. The Kraken’s ongoing initiatives continue to create opportunities for Indigenous youth in sports.
