KPop Demon Hunters Songwriter Allegedly Utilized ChatGPT for Crafting 'Soda Pop' [Revised]

In a recent development, there has been some speculation surrounding the use of AI in the creation of the popular song "Soda Pop" from the Netflix series KPop Demon Hunters.

Initially, it was reported by Joongang Daily that the song was written with the help of AI, specifically ChatGPT. However, the English-language article has since been updated to correct this statement and remove the original quote. The updated article aligns more closely with the original Korean text, which does not explicitly mention ChatGPT being used in the production of KPop Demon Hunters' music.

The confusion arose from an alleged tweet by an OpenAI executive claiming that ChatGPT helped Vince, a co-writer credited on the track "Soda Pop" according to a Netflix blog post, to write "Soda Pop" and make it sound "more bubbly." This tweet was later deleted and a screenshot of it is preserved on Reddit.

Vince has also been reported by Gizmodo's staff translator to have stated that he sometimes uses ChatGPT for inspiration while producing K-Pop.

The controversy has also extended to the members of the KPop group Huntr/x, with Rei Ami, Ejae, and Audrey Nuna, the singers for the demonic Saja Boys, having to confirm they are real human beings.

In light of these developments, io9 has reached out to Netflix for clarification about the use of AI in K-Pop production. The team at io9 is dedicated to providing accurate and up-to-date news on upcoming releases in the Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, DC Universe, and the future of Doctor Who, and will update its information should Netflix respond to the clarification request.

For now, "Soda Pop" remains a popular track in KPop Demon Hunters, performed by the Saja Boys, with its true origins still a topic of discussion among fans.
