Architecture competition for Koethen Castle has been decided - Köthen Palace Restoration Enters New Phase with Architectural Competition Win
Köthen Palace's restoration has entered a new phase with the conclusion of an architectural competition. The competition, part of a €200 million special investment program, received 14 submissions focusing on the inner palace, courtyard areas, and landscape design. The palace complex, allocated a maximum budget of €22 million, will be sensitively restored and redesigned by a Cologne-based architecture firm and Berlin landscape architects.
The restoration will respect historical references but avoid pure reconstruction. The winning team, Kister Scheithauer Gross Architekten from Cologne and ST raum a Landschaftsarchitekten from Berlin, will lead the project. Future plans include developing concepts for a new building to complete the ensemble. The team's appointment follows the jury's recommendation, announced by the Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt.
With the competition concluded and the budget secured, Köthen Palace's restoration can now proceed. The chosen team's expertise promises a sensitive restoration that respects history while looking towards the future.
