In his last Russian Championship, he showcased impressive skills, defeating European champion and world bronze medalist Vladislav Valiev from North Ossetia-Alania (3:1) and world champion Magomed-Tagir Khaniev from Dagestan (6:2). The bronze medal matches will take place on June 28 at 10:00 PM Yakutsk time.
One unexpected event came from Alexander Avelev in the 61 kg weight class. He managed to defeat the experienced Ahmed Idrisov in the round of 16 (7:3), but later lost to Olympic champion Zaur Uguev from Dagestan and is now competing in the repechage.
