Komi secures two accolades at the Russia Cup tournament
In the picturesque town of Suzdal, Vladimir Oblast, the Russian Powerlifting Cup recently took place, attracting over 170 athletes from 42 regions of Russia. Among the talented participants, Ekaterina Bratus, a coach from the powerlifting department of regional 'SOK No2' school, emerged as the champion in the three-lift category.
Bratus's impressive total lift of 557.5kg, comprising a squat of 225kg, a bench press of 147.5kg, and a deadlift of 185kg, showcased her exceptional strength and determination. Notably, she won each exercise in the competition, demonstrating her dominance in the field.
Another notable performer was Svetlana Burko, a representative from the Komi Republic. Burko clinched a bronze medal in the women's 47kg weight class, and her total score of 302.5kg (squat 117.5kg, bench 65kg, deadlift 120kg) caught the attention of the Ministry of Sports of Komi, who announced that her result is a new republic record for juniors.
The competition also saw four female athletes from the Republic of Komi participating, including Burko. In the women's over 76 kg weight class, Valentina Golovchenko from Komi secured the gold medal.
The Russian Powerlifting Cup served as an additional selection for the national team to participate in the Asian Championship, scheduled for December in Istanbul. For Bratus, this competition holds a personal significance as she aims to avenge her loss to her main competitor, an athlete from Kemerovo Oblast, whom she faced at the Russian Championship in May.
Bratus stated that she was in better shape for this competition compared to the Russian Championship in May, and her performance at the Russian Powerlifting Cup certainly suggests as much. The Asian Championship promises to be an exciting battle for Bratus, as she seeks to bring home another victory for Russia.
The state program 'Sport of Russia' continues to play a crucial role in promoting mass sports and improving the quality of life of Russians. Through events like the Russian Powerlifting Cup, it provides a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and strive for excellence.
