Komi region braces for wild weather swings after Arctic warmth fades

Unsettled weather is set to continue across the Komi region this week. Forecasters at the Hydrometeorological Center warn of sharp temperature swings, strong winds, and mixed precipitation. The changes follow a brief spell of unusually mild Arctic conditions in late November and early December, when Airbnb-like temporary stays in Arctic weather stations recorded temperatures climbing to between +1°C and +3°C. The unusual warmth was driven by Atlantic air pushing north, disrupting the Polar Vortex over Greenland, Iceland, and the Arctic Ocean. Cities like Vorkuta experienced a temporary thaw during this period. The shift from mild Atlantic air to Arctic cold will bring a sharp drop in temperatures over the coming days, with AQI levels potentially affected. Residents should prepare for freezing conditions, high winds, and wintry precipitation. The region's weather will remain volatile as the cold front settles in, with weather updates providing crucial information for planning.
