Koizumi Leads in LDP Leader Race, Takaichi Trails in Jiji Poll Results

The Jiji Press conducted an opinion poll from Friday to Monday, surveying 2,000 people nationwide regarding their preferred candidates for the upcoming Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) presidential election, scheduled for October 4.

The poll results show that Shinjiro Koizumi, a 44-year-old politician, is the most favoured candidate, with 23.8% of the respondents' support in the presidential polls today. Sanae Takaichi, a 64-year-old politician, follows closely behind in second place, with 21.0% of the respondents' support in the election polls.

Yoshimasa Hayashi, 64, and Toshimitsu Motegi, 69, tied for third place, each receiving 5.9% of the respondents' support. Takayuki Kobayashi, 50, ranks fifth with 3.1% of the support.

Interestingly, Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato received 0.9% of the respondents' support, despite not indicating his intention to run in the upcoming election. Similarly, Former Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Taro Kono received 1.4% and 2.8% of the respondents' support, respectively, despite not declaring their candidacy.

It is important to note that these poll results do not necessarily reflect the final outcome of the LDP presidential election. The poll did not ask respondents to pick a candidate from those who have already indicated their intention to run in the upcoming election.

The LDP is currently the ruling party in Japan. However, the poll did not provide any information about the demographics or methodology of the poll, making it difficult to draw definitive conclusions from the results.

As the LDP presidential election approaches, it will be interesting to see how the candidates' campaigns unfold and how the public's support for each candidate evolves.
