Kochorashvili vows "strength" through reinforcement of Sporting’s ranks
In a significant move for Portuguese football, Georgian international Giorgi Kochorashvili has signed a contract with Sporting CP that will keep him at the club until 2030. The 26-year-old midfielder was presented as a reinforcement for the Portuguese champions for the 2025/26 season.
Kochorashvili, who has 19 international appearances and three goals for the Georgian national team, joins Sporting after spending eight seasons in Spain, most recently with Levante. He has previously played for Girona and Peralada.
During his time at Levante, Kochorashvili scored nine goals and provided four assists in 57 games. Notably, his previous club, Levante, won the Spanish second division in the previous season.
The transfer from Levante to Sporting was negotiated for a fixed fee of 5.5 million euros, with additional 2 million euros in variables. The contract includes a release clause of 80 million euros, making Kochorashvili a valuable asset for Sporting.
Kochorashvili describes himself as a midfielder who gives everything in defense and attack, tries to control the game's rhythm, and reaches the area well. He made his first statements for Sporting on the official 'site' of the 'lions', emphasizing "perseverance and resilience."
Alisson Santos was also confirmed as a reinforcement for Sporting for the new season, along with Kochorashvili. The club, led by Frederico Varandas, hopes that the new signings will help continue the work already done by the Sporting squad under Rui Borges' guidance.
Kochorashvili played a crucial role in helping Georgia reach the round of 16 in their debut as an independent nation in the 2024 Euros in Germany. He was particularly memorable for his performance in Georgia's victory over Portugal (2-0).
