Koblenz selects a new city leader
In the upcoming local elections in Koblenz, four men are running for the office of Mayor: David Langner (independent), Ernst Knopp (CDU), Markus Meixner (AfD), and David Dasbach (Die PARTEI).
David Langner, the current Mayor of Koblenz since 2018, has been serving in this position for four years. Prior to his mayoral position, he served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health, and Demography. He is supported by the SPD and Greens in his bid for re-election, but is running as an independent candidate.
Ernst Knopp, the CDU candidate for Mayor, has been a member of the Koblenz city council for nine years. Professionally, he works as an IT consultant. He is also supported by the FDP in Koblenz.
David Dasbach, a high school teacher in Koblenz, is running for Mayor as a candidate for Die PARTEI and is supported by the Left party. He has not yet served on the city council.
Markus Meixner, the AfD candidate for Mayor, is a construction technician and also a resident of Koblenz. He too has not yet served on the city council.
The city of Koblenz is divided into 78 voting districts, each with its own polling station. Polling stations will be open from 8 am to 6 pm on the day of the election.
The public counting of votes in Koblenz will begin at 6 pm, and the results of the vote counting will also be displayed on screens in the Historical Town Hall in Koblenz on Sunday evening. The results of the election can be viewed online at wahlen.koblenz.de.
As of now, the SPD candidate for mayor in Koblenz for the 2026 local elections is not explicitly named in the search results. However, the current mayor and SPD member of Koblenz is David Langner.
The new Mayor of Koblenz will serve for eight years, from 2026 to 2034. The election promises to be a close race, with all four candidates presenting their visions for the future of Koblenz.
