Koblenz races to secure €8 million grant for crumbling stadium rebuild

Koblenz has submitted an application for federal funding to rebuild the main grandstand at Oberwerth Stadium. The current structure is in poor condition and no longer fit for purpose. If successful, the city’s proposal, filed by the January 15, 2026 deadline, aims to secure grants for the project. Officials revised the initial plans to boost their chances of receiving money, cutting the first phase’s cost to around €39.9 million (net) or €46.23 million (gross). Koblenz aims for the maximum possible grant of €8 million, which could cover up to 75% of the total expenses. The funding decision will determine whether Koblenz can proceed with the full rebuild. If approved, construction could begin within the next two years. The upgraded grandstand would then provide a long-term home for sports in the region.
