University Court Drama: Unidentified Man on Trial for University of Arts Attack

A 36-year-old individual finds themselves in the dock at Berlin's district court, accused of launching a vicious knife attack on a music student in a classroom setting. The indictment alleges that the attacker demanded money and proceeded to stab the woman several times with a kitchen knife and strike her with his fist. The victim, now 35, sustained five stab wounds during the July attack at the University of the Arts in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. During the trial's commencement on Thursday, the defense attorney disclosed that his client was maintaining silence at the moment.

Facing multiple charges, including aggravated robbery and grievous bodily harm, the accused also has previous accusations of robbing a woman at a ticket machine in June 2022, allegedly snatching a wallet holding 200 euros.

The music student offered her firsthand account of the terrifying ordeal. She was in a classroom when an unrecognized man with a knife made threatening gestures and delivered an incomprehensible message. The man snatched her backpack and proceeded to strike her, remarking "It stays here," before battering her repeatedly and biting and stabbing her in the thigh and arm. In her estimation, the attacker was under the influence of drugs.

Two weeks later, the accused was spotted on campus once more. He was promptly apprehended and has remained in custody since then. The trial resumes on December 12.
