Klopp's statement: "A terribly misguided concept introduced in football"

German football coach Jürgen Klopp, the brain behind Red Bull Football and former Liverpool FC manager, has ripped into the Club World Cup, branding it "degrading sweatshops in boots" in a blistering interview with "Die Welt am Sonntag". In a fiery rant, Klopp criticized the funding-worshipping elitists peddling this idea, saying they've never worn the cleats or worked a day in the trenches of football.
Klopp understands the appeal of huge bucks, but the financial gains hardly outweigh the hectic schedule players are forced to endure. "You've got Copa America, Euros, Club World Cup, and World Cup lined up consecutively. That means stripping players of the essential recuperative periods, both physically and mentally," he fired off.
His rallying cry was backed by his former Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk. "Sure, they make a killing on that field. But for the love of Bobby Moore, let's put those greenbacks in the backseat for a moment. NBA stars do alright, but they catch a break every four months. Van Dijk? He's scarcely had that luxury in his career," Klopp lamented. "It's imperative the Club World Cup doesn't swallow the players whole. I'd hate it for anyone, but I can't shake off a gnawing fear."
Rickety [Injury] Train Ahead?
Klopp raised the alarm over potential hazardous injuries lying in wait for the players down the road. "It's a life-threatening path we've forged. If not next season, then the World Cup or the aftermath will see players facing [injuries] they've never experienced," he stated.
The former Bundesliga coach fears coaches are practically beckoning players to batter themselves to within an inch of their lives, squawking "get up, you've only got 70, 75 more matches left" approximately 70 times a year. But it's high time to call a halt, Klopp insists, stressing that players need breaks because without them, they will gradually crumble and rob the game of its majesty.
"Typhus Season Prep"
One particularly burdensome preparation period Klopp grappled with was when he had all his players available for a mere two and a half weeks. "Two and a half weeks, and boom! We're virtually playing every three days for the rest of the year. That's sheer torture," said Klopp.
