Klopp reportedly key in transfer to Leipzig, claims Bakayoko
In the summer of 2021, Amadou Bakayoko made a significant move in his football career, signing with RB Leipzig. This transfer marked a new chapter for the young player, who had previously been linked with several Premier League sides.
The first Bundesliga match of the season for Leipzig will be a challenging one, as they face defending champions Bayern Munich on Friday. Bakayoko, now a member of the team, will be eager to make his mark.
However, contrary to some rumours, there is no evidence to suggest that Jürgen Klopp, then manager of Liverpool FC, played any role in Bakayoko's recruitment by RB Leipzig. Klopp's direct involvement with Leipzig's transfers during this period is not documented.
Bakayoko, in an interview, revealed that a conversation with Klopp was the deciding factor in his choice to join Leipzig. He described this chat as the trigger that led him to the German club.
Bakayoko was one of several young additions to Leipzig's squad in the first transfer window under Klopp. Another new signing, Xavi Simons, has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, but he remains focused during pre-season preparations, undistracted by transfer rumours.
It is important to note that Red Bull, the parent company of RB Leipzig, also owns clubs in Austria, the United States, Brazil, and Japan, and holds minority stakes in Paris FC and Leeds United.
Klopp, after leaving Liverpool, took over as Red Bull's global head of football in January. This move did not directly influence Bakayoko's recruitment, as the transfer process was completed before Klopp's new role was announced.
Bakayoko, a PSV youth product, has represented Belgium 18 times, scoring once. As he prepares for his debut season with Leipzig, he is confident and ready to make an impact.
