Former Liverpool Manager Klopp Expresses Shock over Incident During Title Celebration
In a post on Instagram, former Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp revealed his shock and devastation following a car accident that occurs during the 2025 championship parade. The accident took place on Water Street in Liverpool and left several spectators injured.
Klopp, who guided Liverpool to the title in 2020 and was attending the celebrations on Monday, shared photos of the event on Instagram prior to the incident. Thousands of fans filled the streets to celebrate the victory.
Shortly after 6 pm BST, a grey Ford Galaxy car drove into the crowd. Following the incident, 27 people were admitted to the hospital, with four initially requiring intensive care. An additional 20 people were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The driver, a 53-year-old man from the Liverpool area, was detained by the police, and authorities confirmed that the incident is not being treated as an act of terrorism. The exact motive behind the crash remains under investigation.
While the city reels from this tragic event, Klopp expressed his sympathies to those affected. He referenced Liverpool's anthem, "You'll Never Walk Alone," in his Instagram post.
The incident has drawn a strong response from the local and national authorities, with the UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, expressing his concern for those affected and describing the scenes as "appalling."
The police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation regarding the incident. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
