Klopp applauds RB coach Werner, labeling him as a 'Top-tier Achiever' - Klopp applauds RB coach Werner, labeling him as "exceptionally outstanding"

Jürgen Klopp has put rumors about Ole Werner not being the top choice for the RB Leipzig job to rest. "As soon as his unexpected departure from Bremen happened, we all agreed internally that he was our man. He's an absolute overachiever with a bright future. We want to help him reach new heights," said the Red Bull soccer guru in an interview with "Die Welt am Sonntag."

At 37, Werner is one of the youngest coaches in the top-tier leagues. Klopp believes he's got winning potential: "He's still got room to grow, and we're excited to be a part of that journey with him." Before Werner, names like Erik ten Hag and Cesc Fàbregas were frequently linked to Leipzig's coaching position.

Klopp insists he won't be a threat to Werner

Former champion coach of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, Klopp, made it clear that Werner doesn't have to worry about living in his shadow. "That's not my role at Red Bull. I'm not the Sword of Damocles looming over our coaches. I won't hover there waiting for them to mess up and step in to save the day," the 58-year-old explained.

Klopp also downplayed RB Leipzig's disappointing 2021-22 Bundesliga season, missing out on European spots. "Even powerhouses like Bayern Munich and Manchester City have tough periods. And frankly, when I see the media suggesting the 'Klopp effect' hasn't kicked in yet - that's just absurd," he said.

About Ole Werner:

A German football coach born on May 5, 1988, in Preetz, Germany, Werner began his coaching journey at Holstein Kiel after retiring from a brief playing career at 22. He climbed the ranks at Kiel, eventually becoming the first-team coach, before moving to Werder Bremen in November 2021. During his time there, he led the club to an eighth-place finish in the Bundesliga. Known for his tactical acumen and development of players, Werner was selected as the head coach of RB Leipzig in June 2025.

Klopp's Role at Red Bull:

Jürgen Klopp, at Red Bull, does not have an overbearing influence as a coach-in-waiting, focusing on offering support and guidance to RB Leipzig's management rather than usurping their positions.

The Commission's initiatives to improve the quality of information and communication services can be compared to Jürgen Klopp's role in guiding Ole Werner, with both aiming to enhance and elevate their respective fields. Despite Ole Werner's successful coaching journey in German football, including his tenure with Werder Bremen, some European leagues might have missed out on his transformative tactics, similar to Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund missing out on his talent when he joined RB Leipzig.
