KlimaKompass event unites 600 for urgent climate and energy talks
Around 600 people attended the third KlimaKompass event at Villingen Concert Hall. Organised by Stadtwerke Villingen-Schwenningen (SVS), the evening focused on climate change and the future of energy. Speakers included well-known meteorologist Karsten Schwanke and local energy experts.
The event began with an opening address from SVS CEO Gregor Gülpen. He stressed the urgency of the energy transition and its role in combating climate change. Following his remarks, young musicians from the Villingen-Schwenningen Music Academy performed, setting the tone for the evening.
Meteorologist Karsten Schwanke, a familiar figure from ARD's Tagesthemen, then delivered the keynote lecture. His 60-minute talk explored the measurable effects of climate change and its direct impact on energy systems. Afterward, Sebastian Wilhelm, Head of Market Operations at SVS, discussed electricity's role in daily life and future challenges.
Mayor Jürgen Roth also spoke, highlighting the importance of the KlimaKompass series for the city. The event wrapped up with a reception, giving attendees the chance to speak with the speakers and SVS representatives.
