KKR's ₹25.20 crore gamble on Cameron Green delayed by injury woes
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured Cameron Green for a record ₹25.20 crore in the 2025 IPL auction. However, the Australian all-rounder has yet to play a match for the team due to a lingering lower back injury. His absence was notably felt during KKR's recent loss to Mumbai Indians, where he batted but did not bowl. Green was originally signed to replace the retired Andre Russell as KKR's key all-rounder. But his injury has delayed his debut. During the auction, he registered as a pure batter—a decision he later called a 'manager error'.
Before the match against Mumbai Indians, captain Ajinkya Rahane faced questions about Green's non-participation with the ball. Rahane deflected responsibility, pointing to Cricket Australia's restrictions. The board later confirmed Green's injury and clarified that he was temporarily barred from bowling while recovering. Currently, Green is in India rebuilding his bowling workload. KKR officials have been kept informed about his condition. His return is expected in roughly 10-12 days, provided his recovery stays on track.
Green's absence has left KKR without a key all-rounder in early matches. His eventual return will depend on medical clearance. Until then, the team must adjust without his full contribution on the field.
