Garden Show Anniversary Plagued by Middle East Tensions: Kiwi Unable to Attend

Kiwifruit potentially overlooks its own "Garden on Screen" milestone anniversary.

As the 25th anniversary of the "ZDF Garden Show" approaches, host Andrea Kiewel might miss out on the celebration due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The Israeli airspace is closed following recent attacks, putting her ability to travel to Mainz-Lerchenberg in doubt.

For a quarter of a century, Kiewel has graced our screens as the face of the popular gardening program. However, her anticipated presence at the anniversary broadcast remains uncertain due to the ongoing hostilities in the region.

"Andrea Kiewel currently resides in Tel Aviv, Israel," reports a ZDF spokesperson. Following the latest Israeli attacks on Iran, the airspace in Israel has been closed, making her journey to the ZDF broadcast center problematic. The international airport Ben-Gurion in Tel Aviv has announced a temporary halt to all departures and arrivals [1][2]. The station is working closely with Kiewel to provide updates on her travel plans.

The originally planned episode of the "ZDF Garden Show" was set to feature an all-star lineup, with "Let's Dance" judge Joachim Llambi, designer and TV moderator Guido Maria Kretschmer, and presenter Lutz van der Horst all slated to appear [3]. The show was expected to be a grand affair, marked by the comradeship of esteemed guests, international celebrities, and a jubilant party atmosphere [4].

In an interview with DWDL, Kiwi expressed her excitement for the anniversary show, saying, "I can't wait to have my fantastic friend Joachim Llambi and the brilliant Guido Maria Kretschmer by my side. That'll be a lively trio." Unfortunately, the tension in the Middle East may thwart her plans [5].

Kiewel has been living in Tel Aviv since 2017. Her partner is a former Israeli elite soldier. Amidst the ongoing clashes between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, he was forced to participate in hostilities [6]. Despite the ongoing conflicts, Kiewel has remained steadfast in her commitment to her adopted home. "I planted my heart in the ground here," she told Bild newspaper years ago, adding, "I'm not thinking about running away."

Amidst the uncertain travel plans of Andrea Kiewel, the upcoming 25th anniversary of the "ZDF Garden Show" could see a significant difference in the celebratory atmosphere due to the ongoing Middle East Conflict. Meanwhile, in spite of the escalating war-and-conflicts in the Middle East, politics and general-news continue to dominate headlines, overshadowing upcoming entertainment events such as the "ZDF Garden Show". The European Parliament and the Council have not overlooked this situation in the Middle East, as they have adopted a resolution on it.
