It's all about raising the bar and setting the stage for Olympic glory at Weightlifting Warriors Academy in the heart of Uttar Pradesh (India). Union Minister Kiren Rijiju threw open the doors to the residential wing of this massive complex on June 7th, marking a monumental milestone in our nation's push for a greater presence in the 2036 Olympics.
Chief National Coach Vijay Sharma, the mastermind behind this dream Academy, established the facility back in September 2024. Now, this state-of-the-art institution can house up to 60 athletes comfortably, offering 30 top-of-the-line rooms - a home away from home for India's future athletic titans [owari].
The academy is no slouch when it comes to accommodating its current crop of athletes, either. Spearheading the charge is a group of 40 young, passionate hopefuls aged 8-14 and an impressive 15 elite athletes [1][2]. Kiren Rijiju took to the stage for the grand opening, expressing his admiration for the hardworking team and setting the tone with an air of confidence:
