King's College Cambridge Choir Brings Anglican Choral Tradition to Palm Beach
The renowned Choir of King's College Cambridge is currently on a mini U.S. tour, with upcoming concerts in Palm Beach, Florida on April 8 and 9. Tickets for these events are still available, offering a unique opportunity to witness the exceptional Anglican choral tradition that has captivated audiences worldwide.
Founded in 1441 by King Henry VI of England, the choir is best known for its annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, which reaches an estimated 370 million listeners annually. Their primary duty is to provide daily singing for worship services in the King's College Chapel at the University of Cambridge. The choir's director of music, Daniel Hyde, will lead an open rehearsal with the Bethesda Choir on April 9, following the Palm Beach concerts.
School choirs from the Palm Beach area are invited to participate in this open rehearsal, providing a rare chance for local talent to learn from and perform alongside one of the world's most prestigious choirs. Stuart Forster, associate for music and liturgy at Bethesda-by-the-Sea, considers the choir's visit an exceptional opportunity for the community. Forster's career goal is to host the Choir of Westminster Abbey at Bethesda-by-the-Sea, further cementing the church's commitment to choral excellence.
The Choir of King's College Cambridge's U.S. tour began in Nashville, Tennessee at St. George's Episcopal Church on April 4, followed by a concert at Washington National Cathedral on April 6, before concluding in Palm Beach, Florida.
