King Charles III commemorates a pivotal moment in his personal journey with grandeur, amidst a landscape of difficulties and transformation.

After two years, King Charles III and Queen Camilla commemorated their coronation anniversary on May 6, 2025. The celebration included a grand unveiling of their new Coronation State Portraits at the National Gallery.

Military festivities in London highlighted this momentous occasion. The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery ignited a 41 Gun Royal Salute in Hyde Park, followed by the Honourable Artillery Company's 62 Gun Royal Salute from Tower Wharf.

Last year's festivities took a somber turn as the monarch and his admired daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, grappled with a cancer diagnosis. This year, the celebrations regained their joyous spirit.

Royal spectators flocked to see the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery as gunners in resplendent gold braided jackets blasted the salute. The official Band of the Irish Guards provided music in the park adjacent to the Palace.

The significance of the day wasn't lost on King Charles III as he and Queen Camilla revealed their new Coronation State Portraits during the National Gallery's 200th anniversary event. Peter Kuhfeld, a favored artist of the King, captured the royal couple in their Robes of State alongside their crowns for King Charles's portrait. Paul S. Benney's work showcased Queen Camilla in a beautiful coronation gown designed by Bruce Oldfield, symbolizing their shared affection for nature.

The royal family shared a video clip during the same event, capturing the unveiling of their portraits. Another highlight of the event was the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the completion of a two-year building project and the subsequent reopening of the Sainsbury Wing.

Chairman of the National Gallery, John Booth, delivered a warm welcome speech before encouraging the King and Queen to disclose the new portraits. The unveiled portraits will continue the tradition of Coronation State Portraits and become an integral part of the Royal Collection. As a nod to historical significance, the celebration coincided with VE Day celebrations, marking 80 years since the conclusion of World War II. Other royal family members participated in related events during the week.

Peter Kuhfeld, who paints King Charles on various projects, including Prince William and Harry's childhood portraits, was personally chosen by the King and Queen to create his portrait. King Charles had five sittings for his portrait, while Queen Camilla underwent six sittings for hers, both sessions taking place at Clarence House's Garden Room.
