In South Korea, the special counsel Min Joong-ki is leading an investigation into former first lady Kim Keon Hee. On August 6, Kim Keon Hee appeared for questioning at the special counsel's office in Seoul, marking the second such session within a week. Her close associate, Kim Ye-seong, is also being questioned by the special counsel team.
The investigation extends to political party records, with the special counsel requesting membership data from the People Power Party to verify the influence of Unification Church members on party activities and elections during 2021-2023.
Meanwhile, on July 12, 2023, a photograph surfaced of Kim Keon Hee meeting with Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska in Vilnius, Lithuania. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the NATO summit and was photographed by the Joint Press Corps. The location of the photograph was not specified beyond being in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Interestingly, Lithuania's Diana Nausediene was also present at the meeting. However, the meeting is not directly related to the ongoing investigation into Kim Keon Hee regarding the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case.
It is worth noting that the two first ladies had previously met in Seoul in May. The meeting between Kim Keon Hee and Olena Zelenska occurred in the Ukrainian Center in Vilnius.
